The Forrester Wave evaluation is an assessment of the top vendors in the market; it doesn't represent the entire vendor landscape. Vendors can appear in one evaluation and not in the next if they no longer meet the inclusion criteria. The primary reasons for vendor exclusion in this evaluation were: 1) vendors no longer actively positioning/promoting/selling their platforms outside of their existing ecosystem (Oracle, Spotfire, SAP, SAS), and 2) vendors pivoting to specialized use cases rather than general-purpose enterprise BI (Sisense focusing on embedded BI).
A: Vendors appear one year and not the next primarily when they no longer meet the inclusion criteria for the evaluation. For this Business Intelligence Platforms evaluation, the key inclusion criteria include: 1) A general-purpose, standalone enterprise BI platform that addresses all enterprise BI use cases, 2) Active marketing of the standalone BI platform to users not currently using the vendor's other enterprise platforms, and 3) At least 25% of the vendor's BI customers using the platform to analyze data from business applications sold by different vendors. Vendors that shift their strategy to focus primarily on their existing ecosystem customers (Oracle, Spotfire, SAP, SAS) or pivot to specialized use cases (Sisense to embedded BI) may be dropped from future evaluations even if their technical capabilities remain strong.
