This Magic Quadrant evaluates 12 vendors in the container management market as of September 2024. The market has grown more than 20% over the past year, with a market value of $2 billion in 2023, forecast to exceed $4.5 billion by 2028 with a 17.6% CAGR. Key market trends include: increasing adoption of serverless container services, growing use of containers for AI deployments, expansion to edge computing, and hybrid/multicloud deployments. The evaluation focuses on vendors' ability to support enterprise requirements for agility, modernization and transformation initiatives. For Chinese vendors (Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Cloud, Tencent Cloud), the evaluation specifically focused on their international business operations.
A: Vendors appear in the Magic Quadrant based on meeting specific inclusion criteria including: minimum $100 million in annual revenue OR $30 million with 30 net new customers gained in 2023; at least 100 paying production customers with geographic distribution across multiple regions; generally available capabilities as of April 1, 2024; native support for standard container management capabilities; and ranking among top 20 organizations in Gartner's Customer Interest Indicator. Vendors may be excluded if they fail to meet financial thresholds, lack sufficient customer base, have limited geographic presence, or show insufficient market traction. The evaluation also considers product capabilities, market execution, vision, and strategic positioning. IBM was mentioned as an honorable mention rather than full inclusion because its container management strategy is built on Red Hat OpenShift, which is evaluated separately as a Leader.
