Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools
Vendors or products added in this year’s report may indicate a change in the market, change in evaluation criteria, or change of focus by the vendor.
Vendors or products dropped from one year to the next may indicate a change in the market, change in evaluation criteria, or change of focus by the vendor.
Over the past year, the enterprise architecture (EA) tools market has undergone significant transformation, characterized by a series of strategic mergers, acquisitions, consolidations, and the entry of several new well-resourced vendors. Notable developments include: Ardoq acquired ShiftX in September 2024; Bizzdesign acquired MEGA International in September 2024 and Software AG's Alfabet product in January 2025, committing to support three standalone EA tools (Alfabet, HOPEX, and Horizzon) for five to seven years; ServiceNow formally rebranded its Application Portfolio Management product as Enterprise Architecture in September 2024; Orbus Software acquired Capsifi in December 2024; Avolution received strategic growth investment from private equity firm Whiteoak in December 2024; and Bizzdesign announced a new product under development called Bizzdesign Unify in May 2025, aimed at bridging gaps between EA tools, diagramming and modeling tools, and enterprise business platforms.
A: Vendors appear or disappear from the Magic Quadrant based on changes in inclusion criteria and market dynamics. A vendor's appearance in a Magic Quadrant one year and not the next does not necessarily indicate a change in Gartner's opinion of that vendor. It may reflect a change in the market and therefore changed evaluation criteria, or a change of focus by that vendor. Vendors must meet specific inclusion criteria across three dimensions: Performance Threshold (minimum revenue or revenue growth), Market Momentum Threshold (minimum customer acquisitions across geographic regions), and Market Focus Threshold (minimum customer base, general availability, and demonstrated support for critical capabilities and use cases).
