This SCPS Magic Quadrant goes beyond prior Gartner cloud infrastructure and platform services (CIPS) evaluations, to also evaluate providers on their ability to help customers accelerate and transform their IT operations and their business using cloud infrastructure. The SCPS market segment is that subset of the CIPS market controlled by the global hyperscale cloud providers. Today, these top eight SCPS providers control over 97% of the total CIPS market. Gartner survey results indicate that 76% of enterprise IaaS and PaaS customers today rely on more than one public cloud provider.
A: Not all enterprise cloud journeys are the same. Gartner has identified four broad types of cloud journeys: Technology replacement, Cloud-native adoption, Cloud innovation, and Business transformation. Each journey requires a different combination of cloud services and digital transformation activities. To qualify for inclusion, providers must meet specific criteria including market participation (selling public cloud IaaS and PaaS as stand-alone services), market traction and momentum (minimum revenue thresholds, global presence on at least three continents), business capabilities (24/7 support, language localization, cloud adoption assistance programs), and technical capabilities (comprehensive IaaS/PaaS services, elastic provisioning, SLAs for 75%+ of services with 99.5%+ availability).
